Fifteen Perspectives, One Purpose: The 2025 Internship Program
At The Bancorp, we recognize that a variety of perspectives fuel innovation and growth. This summer, we had the privilege of welcoming 15 talented interns from various academic backgrounds, each bringing unique insights and enthusiasm to our teams.
While their experiences varied, they shared a common goal to: contribute meaningfully, develop their skills, and gain a deeper understanding of the financial services industry. Our internship program goes beyond observation — it offers real, hands-on work across departments such as Fintech, Lending, IT, Risk, Legal, and more.
From day one, these interns were immersed in projects, collaborated closely with professionals, and embraced the challenges of a fast-paced financial environment. Below, you’ll hear directly from members of our 2025 intern class as they reflect on their experiences, their growth, and the impact this opportunity has had on their career journeys.
The Intern Experience at The Bancorp
Real-world impact
Our interns engaged in projects and responsibilities that made a tangible difference to their teams and The Bancorp as a whole. Through meaningful contributions, they developed confidence in their abilities and a sense of accomplishment.
Clayton Poppenga, Product Development Intern:
I assisted in automating a Quality Assurance report and worked through some issues with it. After it was complete, I felt appreciated by the team and like I made a real impact.
Evan Myran, Modern Workforce Tech Engineer Intern:
I was able to help in the deployment of Duo MFA company wide and participate in the transition from Windows 10 to 11.
JP Ohl, Bridge Lending Intern:
I've attended multiple CRE conferences and learned from great minds in and out of the office.
Maitri Dadhaniya - Small Business Lending Intern:
My work has supported the team by helping keep things organized and moving efficiently. I've assisted with annual reviews, reached out to clients for updated financials, and cleaned up records in SPARK to ensure accuracy. I've also supported the BDOs by helping prepare client materials.
Professional and personal growth
Throughout their internships, our students enhanced both their professional skills and personal development. They gained valuable insights that will serve them well as they pursue future career opportunities.
Cloie Stevens, Client Account Specialist Intern:
What I learn through lectures and textbooks is so different from what I experienced while working. This experience has been invaluable in preparing me for my future after college.
John Karipides, Credit Markets and Business Strategy Intern:
I have gained confidence navigating a corporate environment, from managing deadlines to collaborating with teams. This experience has challenged me to ask questions, take initiative, and be open to constructive criticism, all of which have made me more adaptable, self-aware, and confident in my abilities.
Mikena Moore, SQL Database Intern:
Being part of a collaborative and supportive team has shown me how important strong communication and teamwork are, especially when facing complex tasks. The positive work environment has made me feel more comfortable and confident in a professional setting.
Ciara Gardyan, Banking Intern:
My experience at The Bancorp has taught me to work more confidently in a corporate environment. Through team meetings and feedback sessions, I've grown more comfortable asking questions, taking initiative, and building professional relationships.
Communication and company culture
A collaborative and communicative environment enabled our interns to ask questions, learn effectively, and feel supported throughout their time with us.
Mikal Bennett, Modern Workforce Tech Engineer Intern:
I have learned working within a team, corporate style IT, and management structure.
Alyssa Corley, Legal Intern:
I learned some professional communication and practical analytical thinking skills. It is a valuable skill to communicate professionally and practically with different levels of leadership in various media, which is something this role taught me to do.
Karli Henderson, Marketing Intern:
Everyone was always happy to help me whenever I had questions, explaining things clearly and giving useful feedback. This kind of support made a huge difference and helped me grow a lot during my internship.
Industry insight
Interns developed a broader understanding of the complexities and inner workings of the financial industry, gaining knowledge that extended beyond their initial academic exposure.
Kentina Ishimwe, Financial Risk Management Intern:
Fintech, to the end user, seems easy. By one click, you can transfer money. However, learning about the complexity of the process behind it all is the most interesting.
Nicholas McLeod, Commercial Lending Intern:
I have learned behind-the-scenes operations, compliance, and how much legwork is involved in seemingly simple actions.
Mackenzie Kirby, Product Development Intern:
It's been interesting to see how much of the industry is driven by compliance—ensuring that products and processes align with strict regulations and legal standards.
Nhu Tran, Audit Intern:
The most interesting part of learning about internal audit from The Bancorp so far has been seeing how it fits into the bigger picture of risk management and governance.
The 2025 intern class brought energy, fresh ideas, and a commitment to learning that made a meaningful impact across The Bancorp. Their unique perspectives — united by a shared purpose — highlight the value of hands-on experience in shaping future leaders.
